Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm – Community Information Session

GHRE wishes to inform the local community about the project. GHRE is holding a Community Information Session where members of the public can drop in and get information.

Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Pty Ltd (GHRE) is proposing a wind farm and energy storage development at Carmody’s Hill, 7km east of Georgetown.

Carmody’s Hill wind farm was previously proposed to be developed by Pacific Hydro. The wind farm was approved by the Northern Areas Council in December 2009, but did not proceed to construction and the approval has since lapsed. GHRE have secured options to develop the wind farm, which has a reduced footprint and less
wind turbine generators.

Up to 45 wind turbine generators. Connection of the wind farm to the national electricity grid via the Davenport to Brinkworth 275kV transmission line.
The site will consist of approximately 4,457 hectares, on which approximately 32 hectares would be utilised for the wind farm infrastructure;
In addition to the electricity generation, the proposal improves SA’s energy security with the inclusion of an energy storage facility.

The project will involve approximately $350 million in investment during the construction phase Generating electricity for approximately 163,000 homes
each year. During construction the wind farm would generate an estimated 300 jobs. Once operational up to 6 full time jobs will be supported by the facility on an ongoing basis; A saving of an estimated 683,000 tonnes in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on an annual basis.
Establishment of a sustainable community fund for community projects in the Georgetown, Gulnare and Gladstone area.
