Today we stand in solidarity to raise awareness of a silent crisis affecting far too many older people in our communities: elder abuse.
Elder abuse can take many forms - physical, emotional, financial or neglect - and it often goes unnoticed or unreported. Every older person deserves to live with dignity, respect and safety.
Let's take this day to check in on the elders in our lives, speak up against mistreatment and support efforts that protect and empower older Australians.
Together we can build a culture of care, where aging is honoured and valued - not feared.
If you suspect you or someone you know is at risk of or is being abused,
you can call 1800 372 310, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm for information, support or to make a report to the Adult Safeguarding Unit at: https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/conditions/stop+elder+abuse/stop+elder+abuse
