❤️❤️HEART WEEK 6 - 12 May 2024 ❤️❤️
Protect Your Heart
As a proud survivor of three heart attacks and quadruple bypass heart surgery, I will be taking on the role of Co-Chair to establish the Heart Foundation Friends of Parliament Group. It will be chance for Members of Parliament to listen to leading experts in their field, educating and passing on vital information on how to protect our heart health.
I strongly advocate and encourage everyone to be proactive in ensuring a healthy heart.
Here are 5 easy steps to keep your heart strong:
1. 🥦Eat a healthy diet. Load up on fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and proteins, wholegrain cereals and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Cut back on salt.
2. 🤸♀️Stay active. Aim for regular exercise to keep your heart pumping strong. Ideally, 30-60 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise (brisk walking) on most days.
3. 🚫Be smoke free. Smoking damages your heart and blood vessels. One year after quitting smoking, your chance of a heart attack is cut in half.
4. 🍟Control cholesterol. Understand your levels and make dietary changes if needed. Bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) can stick to the walls of your arteries causing blockages and increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.
5. ❤️Manage blood pressure. Regularly monitor and take steps to keep it in check. High blood pressure (hypertension) raises the risk of heart disease.
Your heart is precious. Let’s take care of it together.
