The brand new 38 km Remarkable Epic Trail delivers a hallmark cycling experience showcasing the beauty of the Southern Flinders Ranges and the Spencer Gulf.
I was delighted to represent the Deputy Premier, the Hon Susan Close MP, at the official opening.
This is a great example of multiple levels of government and the community working together to provide an outstanding project which will greatly benefit the wider region, with financial contributions from the SA Government and the Australian Government in response to a strong proposal from a community partnership consisting of the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, Northern Areas Council, District Council of Mount Remarkable, Port Pirie Regional Council and Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid-North.
Riders are treated to spectacular views of Black Range as they travel the western side of the trail, before being looped back toward Melrose beneath the Gibraltar Rock formations.
It's not for the faint of heart!
Joining me to open the trail were Karen Grogan - Senator for SA, Mayor Stephen McCarthy (District Council of Mount Remarkable), Mayor Leon Stephens (Port Pirie Regional Council), and Mr Kym Thomas, Chair, Nukunu Wapma Thura Aboriginal Corporation. I also acknowledge Nicola Centofanti MLC's attendance, amongst many others who were on hand to mark this special occasion.
